Sponsor: http://KeeneFreedomFest.com - Jason Sorens instigated the Free State Project in 2001 with an essay, a plan and a group of pragmatic freedom lovers in whom his idea resonated. His idea was to move thousands of freedom lovers to a single low-population state. New Hampshire became that state. Roughly 450 have moved thus far and become a cultural/political force out of all propotion to their numbers. By the way, some folks forget this but the idea also originated to some extent from popular conservative columnist Walter Williams. Oct 14, 2008 - I DECLARE MY INDEPENDENCE FROM THE STATE AND THE UNION!!! WOOHOO!!! Love this video. I was expecting Jason to more strongly advocate politics, but I agree with him that all activism is good activism as long as it's "smart" activism.

Oct 15, 2008 - Agreed, "feel good" activism is momentary. Activism with a view toward attaining goals is where I would like to see a project like Free State to focus.

Oct 15, 2008 - That band Dave showed right at the start of the Keene Freedom Festival ad is Josh Noone, and they're FANTASTIC. Look them up on MySpace. I'm not the band groupie type normally but I'm starting to get that way for this band. They'll be playing at the Keene Freedom Festival which is really fleshing out to be a great event.

Oct 15, 2008 - If my memory serves correctly I've posted a few comments on The Union Leader under the Indian Stream Republic username, but it's probably a somewhat common username so Dave is probably referring to someone else. It's my understanding that the name of the nation was actually "Republic of Indian Stream", but Indian Stream Republic rolls off the tongue better IMO.

Oct 15, 2008 - I will be moving to New Hampshire within a year. Whether through voting or civil disobedience I can't wait to get to New Hampshire and do my part :)

Oct 16, 2008 - Near the end of the video, regarding succession did he just say get a hold of the official town organs? OMG Jason! Well chosen words!

CurtHowland Says:

Oct 23, 2008 - When my neighbors started putting out their Obomba and McBane signs, I put my Ron Paul sign -back- out to make as much of a comment about it all as I politely could. Much more polite than burning their signs in the middle of the night, which was my first thought. But that would be trespassing.

Oct 27, 2008 - would public drunkeness be considered civil disobedience?
