Organic fertilizers, like kelp, bone meal,alfalfa meal and chicken manure. Seeds have different self lives as well. They will store well in climate control. Rule of thumb the larger seeds usually last longer.

Nov 14, 2008 - make sure you look for seeds that germinate and produce fast. Some heirloom seeds have been around for hundreds of years, open pollinated. Get winter squashes and sweet potatoes for starch and they store well. Learn how to can too. Victory seed has a good quality seed.

Nov 19, 2008 - If any of you are saving seeds from the vegetables you buy at the grocery store, don't bother--They will not produce any fruit/vegetables if you plant them. They are specifically made that way. The seeds will grow plants, but the plants will NOT produce any fruit. You have to buy heirloom seeds. Do not buy hybrid seeds, the seeds you get from hybrid veg's are sterile, you can't plant them the following year. You want to plant only veg's that you can save the seeds from year to year.
