Oct 7, 2008 - I don't think your concept is consistent with the Bible, especially when one reflects on the Book of Job. Job was considered first among God's followers but not because of how much he loved god but because how much he 'feared' god. Job 1:8 "There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil." Fear is the motivator of Job and that fear is what god respects in him.

Oct 7, 2008 - Your points are good and I don't disagree. The point in this vid regards DO vs. DONE. All religions on earth emphasize works or a sliding scale of good. I hope I got across that we are not made acceptable to God by anything we do. It is by His grace and thru faith He gives us that we are acceptable.

nighthawk7878 Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - I don't think 'fear' is the best word either. Though that word is in the OT, it does not mean the same in english today. Job and many other OT brothers exercised great faith (or fear of God=reverence for God) This is a cut down version of the vid because I was limited to 10 min. Ful version on google is 16 min and gets into faith vs. works issues.

sfehrenbach Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - If 'fear' is the wrong word then the bible is in error or you disagree with it. "it does not mean the same in english today." Can you supply the original Hebrew to show that 'fear' is not meant? The only reason there is a difference in leaning between the OT and the NT is the audience AND the writer has changed.

nighthawk7878 Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - I did not say fear is the wrong word. Job is a great theological example. I don't deny the great truths found there. In fact, I just got through reading it. The fear of God is a great concept when understood in OT terms. What I meant was that the common definition of the word fear is to be afraid. If we know Him, truly know Him, we are not afraid of Him nor do we have the need to hide from His presence.

sfehrenbach Says:

Oct 7, 2008 - I find Job a great theological example as well though I doubt you'd agree with what I see. God agrees to mass killing in order to settle a bet with Satan. Though since God knows all and Satan knows that he doesn't need to prove by example. Though god's ability to know all seems limited since he starts by asking Satan where he has been. It clearly demonstrates that the bible god is not one that is loving, all knowing or all powerful.

Oct 8, 2008 - Romans 9:21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use? I don't understand everything that happened in history either. Sometimes I try to second guess God. However, He is God and he has ultimate rule and reign. Job is a wonderful theo lesson. There are many things about life i can't explain. I can fight and resist or I can accept and move on. We all have that choice i suppose.

Nov 29, 2008 - So now Christianity is assimilated to winning the Lottery!! Shame on you!! Again with the disenfranchising... Self-righteous is an adjective, a descriptive word, not a noun as in a name or title - Self righteous doesn't derive from someones Self performing Right, it is a description of the CONFIDENCE OF SOMEONE'S RIGHTEOUSNESS IE: Smugly moralistic and intolerant of the opinions and behavior of others. In the dictionary. IE HAUGHTY - but the quick pics add a good deseptive touch...

civworx Says:

Nov 29, 2008 - The self righteous scribes and pharasees that Jesus didn't like were CONFIDENT IN THIER RIGHTEOUSNESS IE: Smugly moralistic and intolerant of the opinions and behavior of others. AND INTURN TURNED FROM THE OPIONS/TEACHINGS OF JESUS - Thats why Jesus didn't like them... LOGICAL - a bit more logic, Declared righteousness?? Doesn't that seem to fit self righteousness accuratly? Declaring one righteousness? God created the earth, the earth runs on logic, thus God is Logical.. why not the bible??

nighthawk7878 Says:

Nov 29, 2008 - civworx: Your points are good as far as I can understand them. I am working on a video about Abraham that really explains his faith. It is also my faith. Yes, true Christians do not work to be righteous--they are declared righteous by God and then we work IN RESPONSE to His love for us. There are many people out there working themselves to death and all for naught.

nighthawk7878 Says:

Nov 29, 2008 - No one in the world can make themselves honorable, righteous, loved to/by God. God did the work for us in Jesus and we trust in His work alone to be the substitute for us. That is the only way that gains anyone righteousness.

nighthawk7878 Says:

Nov 29, 2008 - I do not blame you one bit for working for good. But I just have major questions as to whether it will do you any good. The Qur'an and the Ahadith affirm me in this. The Qur'an says that they price to buy your soul is too big for you to ever pay God off so to speak. Aisha, I believe, said that Muhammad said, "don't look to me to try to bail you out in the end. I cannot." That is paraphrased obviously. I have a vid on it. under True Path.

civworx Says:

Nov 29, 2008 - Yes Islam states quite clearly that money and possessions will not go with you to the hearafter - so spend them wisely in charity and assisting the needy - This is what a Muslim must do, but you say DON'T DO ANYTHING faith alone will set you free - what a selfish way to live life - Share, feed the poor, build homes for the needy... don't add metaphors and obscure remarks to advent christians into believing false doctrines... FEED THE POOR MAN!!

nighthawk7878 Says:

Nov 29, 2008 - I did not say that I do not do any good deeds. I do many good deeds. But, the Bible says that all my deeds are as filthy rags in His sight. They get me no grace in God's eyes. The feeding of the poor is just that. That does not get me any points or merit with God.

nighthawk7878 Says:

Nov 29, 2008 - Rangers 37:107—We (God) ransomed him (Abrahams son) with a mighty sacrifice. The term mighty in Arabic also means priceless without any limit. Since God is the only one able to provide for mans ransom, man must look to God in order to be saved. Can you think of a way in history that God has provided this ransom for us? When I survey history from the Far East to the West I find but one example of how this ransom might have been accomplished and that is Jesus.

civworx Says:

Nov 29, 2008 - Ransom, as in the devil, lucifer the dammed, that little thing of annoyance, the thing that keeps himself hidden so we don't step on him, that little thing is holding us to ransom?? And God all mighty, far greater than Man, and Man is far greater than Lucifer - Thus why does the Bible say God gave his son for the salvation of man kind, to be so called "crucified" when God could just squash the committer of evil so easily!!! This isn't Logic, All of Gods creations are logical, why not the bible?

nighthawk7878 Says:

Nov 30, 2008 - Don't be so sure man is stronger that evil forces!! I could name many situations where evil has triumphed. civworx: I believe you need to investigate thoroughly Jesus Christ and His claims. He does have claims on your life. He is calling you to Himself. The Bible DOES SAY God gave His Son for the salvation of mankind, ie to be crucified. Jesus did fulfill God's prophesy that the serpent's would be crushed and He did it.
