The gallant soldiers of the Sri Lanka Air Force are playing a significant role in the North supporting the Army. They are engaged in massive air operations against the LTTE terrorists. Our representative Harsha Dhananjaya said the Sri Lanka Air Force is proud to own an Infantry Regiment as well. The Air Force Regiment Special Force was launched in February 2006. In addition to protecting the air bases, it is making a vital contribution towards the protection of aircraft and the soldiers. Squadron Leader Rohan Pathirana said of setting up this force was to protect air bases and carry out rescue missions, assist ground troops and also to support civilians during natural disasters. It was the members of the Air Force Regiment Special Force who extended security to several Army camps in the East. They solidify security, remaining in the Manirasakulam and Peraru Camps. The Air Force Unit at Morawewa in Trincomalee is looking into the welfare of civilians of Track One and Five and Namalwatte. Chief Wing Commander in charge of the Morawewa Air Base Chandana Deepthi referred to their contributions to the resettlement of the displaced.
