VOTE for this idea if you think it's cool by posting: "I vote for MythBusters Viewer Challenge! -Free Falling Survival?" in the comments of the Mythbuster viewer challenge video. I don't have the book "Angels and Demons" with me so I'm not sure how high up Robert Langdon was when he fell...

Sep 27, 2008 - When I was a kid I used to jump off the roof of my house with an umbrella... it was about 16 or 17 feet and I was fine... So I think jumping out of a helicopter at about two or three hundred feet into water with 'parashirt' would work.

Sep 28, 2008 - ACTUALLY... If you check the guiness book, there's a record for the longest SURVIVED freefall, set a long time ago by a flight attendant, her name was Vesna (don't remember last name). She fell something like 30,000ft from a passenger plane and lived.

twizz420 Says:

Sep 28, 2008 - From WikiAnswers: Name: Vesna Vulovic Place: Serbska Kamenice, Czechoslovakia Date: January 26, 1972 Length of fall: 33,300 Feet More: When a Yugoslav DC9 exploded in mid air, as a suspected result of a terrorist bombing, Vesna Vulovic plummeted over 33,000 feet to land on a snowy slope. Vesna Vulovic was paralyzed from the waist down, but later recovered and was able to walk. She was the only survivor and holds the record for the longest fall.

Oct 1, 2008 - But didn't he say water? I would really like to find out what it takes to survive falling into water

twizz420 Says:

Oct 1, 2008 - Well I don't think it makes a difference at that point. Water after reaching terminal velocity is like concrete.
