Nov 16, 2008 - Sorry, been away from keyboard a few days. To pav5088, good explanation thankyou, regards. To nonkeljef, warm greetings my Belgian friend, I took your comments incorrectly, my apologies. The Aussie meaning of "lest we forget" in relationship to the wars is "Let us not forget". And of course, thankyou to all the European countries, large and small, including Belgium, (all suffered greatly), large and small, who along with a small Australian contingent, UK and USA, Canada etc, fought in the wars.
nonkeljef Says:
Nov 16, 2008 - Thank you, we Belgians own na small country, yet we manage not to be forgotten by the world... Yet, i have no right showing off my ancestors' deeds, but i'm happy with the political decisions they made. And one thing I learned: Lest we make the same mistakes, let us remember the history!' Greets, :)
Longtrangdukich Says:
Nov 16, 2008 - Sorry dude but what about the Congo? King Leopold kinda fucked them up for life...
Longtrangdukich Says:
Nov 16, 2008 - May we remember all who sacraficed in the Vietnam war.
nonkeljef Says:
Nov 17, 2008 - That is a fact, and I am fully aware of the situation in Congo. You're absolutely right to press my nose on this period. What happened back then, was morally unacceptable. Yet, i think the situation was firmly driven by the greed of one man... others followed for sure. But, i have to mark my words, because i don't know all that much.. But, overall, i think belgium has made decent decisions on international political issues...
thirdmarines Says:
Nov 17, 2008 - The Vietnam War was the longest conflict in which Australians have been involved; it lasted ten years, from 1962 to 1972, and involved some 60,000 personnel. A limited initial commitment of just 30 military advisers grew to include a battalion in 1965 and finally, in 1966, a task force. Each of the three services was involved, but the dominant role was played by the Army. Lest we forget.
thirdmarines Says:
Nov 17, 2008 - Four Victoria Crosses were awarded to AATV members, along with numerous other awards and decorations. Australia dead: 520; wounded: 2,400

Nov 17, 2008 - We happy few, we "BAND OF BROTHERS" for today who sheds his blood with me shall be my BROTHER.
Longtrangdukich Says:
Nov 17, 2008 - Other than the Congo yes. He wanted to make Belgium great which he did through the enslavement of the Congo. But oh well. Europe doesnt own Africa any more

JAKE74BRAKAR Says:
Nov 22, 2008 - it isnt a FN FAL they used it is a SLR L1A1 which is related but still definatly a brilliant assult rifle it is also similar to the belgian FAL
lesrichxxx Says:
Nov 23, 2008 - Whilst i agree the SLR is brilliant it is not an assault rifle but rather a true rifle that in wide open spaces gives the user a fantastic weapon for the likes of the Falklands scrub flatlands of Africa or woodlands of Europe but in confined fighting such as FIBUA or the jungles of south east Asia it was a disaster that caused the deaths of a number of troops because of its length.also the weight of ammunition was so large and heavy it restricted the ammount you were able to take on patrol.

Nov 26, 2008 - what is the name of this film?
liqlaugubrious Says:
Nov 27, 2008 - the songs name?
Longtrangdukich Says:
Nov 27, 2008 - It is an assault rifle. Originally it was designed for a proprietary intermediate round but had to be modified to the 7.62 when it was adopted by NATO. Same deal with the US M14. Damn fine weapon, not the greatest for use as an assault rifle because of the size of the round.
peer200 Says:

Nov 15, 2008 - ...or perhaps "for fear that we might forget" works better? Anyway, that is the general sentiment.
